Mariah Carey has outstripped the likes of Madonna, Janet and Whitney with ease.With her current hit song "My All" she has just received her thirteenth number 1 song and this record has never been totalled by any other female artist ever. She is the second artist ever to have an album enter the Billboard Hot 100 straight at number one.This acclaimed album "Daydream" was the second ever album, after Michael Jackson's "Thriller" entered at number one also without climbing up the charts. Mariah is the youngest artist, after Elvis Presley to have her first seven singles to reach the number one slot."Vision Of Love", Mariah's debut single reached number one in several countries and this led the way to her journey to stardom. As a child Mariah was very lonely. Her parents split up when she was just three.Originally she was Mariah Roy but changed her name to Carey after her parents split up, which is her Irish mothers maiden name.After a long tough life Mariah dreamed of becoming a star although she didn't get many breaks.She worked in diners and hotels just to earn extra money but this wasn't her dream.Eventually she got a job working as a backing singer and went to a gala opening where a lot of record companies were present. Mariah handed her demo tape to Sony boss, Tommy Mottola, and before the end of that same week she was signing her record deal with Columbia Records Sony. Since then Mariah has broken several records such as being the biggest selling female artist of the nineties, she has won a legends award at the "World Music Awards" in 1998 and this is an amazing achievement since she is only out since the nineties and other artists have to wait decades sometimes to recieve such an award. She now wants to start a career in acting also but just for fun because she never wants to leave her first love which happens to be singing.Mariah is truly the best singer to perform and sing. Her talent is phenomenal. In 1997 she split up with her husband and her record manager, Mottola, and is now seeing Derek Jeter.

Her last album cunningly called "Butterfly" was her first album after her split and the title denotes a sense of freedom which she never really had when she was married. Since 1990 she has released 9 albums and that is a lot of work to have done but this shows that she is a dedicated singer and she will get what she wants. Total respect is due.
